What Is Microblading?
Are you looking to up your brow game? Have years of over-plucking left you with a strip-mined wasteland where once a lush forest of brows grew? If so, microblading may be ideal for you.
Microblading is a cosmetic procedure we’re proud to offer here at Jiva Spa Toronto. By depositing a small amount of pigment under your skin, we can give your brows a far more natural look than traditional cosmetic tattooing.
If you’re looking to fill in some patchy sections of your brows, or you have no brows altogether, microblading can be a great option.
During microblading treatment, we’ll begin by measuring your eyebrow area to make sure we give you the brows you’re looking for. From there, we’ll use a hand tool with super fine needles to gently etch each hair into your skin, using a pigment matched to your original hair colour or another of your choosing. The result is a beautiful, realistic looking set of brows.
What To Expect From A Microblading Appointment
Once you arrive at your appointment, we’ll start by asking you what you’re hoping to achieve with your brows. If you have a clearly defined plan for your brows we’re happy to help, and if you don’t have much more of an idea than “fix my face”, we can still work with you.
From there, we’ll outline the area we’re going to work on, checking in with you to make sure the shape is what you’re hoping for.
Next, you’ll lie down on our comfortable treatment table, where we’ll begin to deposit pigment within the treatment area. You’ll get a chance to see things as they go through a mirror, and make suggestions along the way.
Treatment takes between 45 to 90 minutes depending on your goals.
We usually book a follow up appointment afterwards to make sure your brows are in the shape you want, and make any touch-ups necessary.
How Long Does Microblading Last?
Microblading treatments last between one and three years, depending on your skin type and your skincare routine.
It’s a different procedure than what you’d get with traditional tattoos, and doesn’t go quite as deeply into your skin. As a result, it will fade over time when compared with tattooing your eyebrows in the traditional way, but the trade-off is that your results are much more natural looking.
Factors which may affect the longevity of your treatment include tanning, and using products with glycolic acid, AHA, or retinol.
Is Microblading Right For You?
Microblading isn’t suitable for everyone. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, you have a skin condition like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, chronic acne, you’re taking blood thinners, or you have an autoimmune disorder, we need to talk before we can go forward. There are a number of other risk factors as well which we’ll discuss.
Before we begin, you’ll get a consultation with one of our certified microblading professionals to find out whether microblading or another option is best for your unique needs.
Does Microblading Hurt?
Some people report a small amount of pain, but for the most part it’s considered relatively pain free. Before we begin, we’ll apply a numbing cream to the area to reduce any pain you may experience. If you’ve ever experienced eyebrow threading, the feeling is similar.
After we’re finished, you may experience a bit of soreness, redness, and slight swelling for a short while. This is completely normal and nothing to be concerned about.
What Should You Know Before Your Microblading Appointment?
Please avoid any caffeinated beverages the day of your appointment, as well as alcohol for 24 hours prior to your treatment.
As well, please avoid taking any aspirin, Advil, ibuprofen, or derivatives for 48 hours. You may, however, use acetaminophen (Tylenol).
Avoid waxing for at least three days before your appointment, though tweezing is okay.
When you call to book your appointment, we’ll make sure to let you know what to do before your appointment as well as any aftercare suggestions.
