What is a manicure? And what is a pedicure? Essentially, it’s a method of taking care of your hands and feet. Most people think of it as a feminine thing, where ladies go to spend a day at the spa with their friends, get their nails painted and cleaned up while they gossip about the latest episode of Desperate Housewives.
And it can be this, of course. But believe it or not, it’s not only for women. And it’s not only for effeminate men either!
In fact, manicures for men are popular with all sorts of guys, from girly boys to burly construction workers, and everyone in between!
But how can this be? After all, it’s not often that you see a man with painted nails outside of a drag club.
When my wife Neetu and I started Jiva Spa Toronto, she constantly encouraged me to get a manicure and pedicure. It feels great, she’d tell me, it’s nice, it will make your hands and feet smooth, it’s good for you, and on and on. But none of it sunk in.
It never made sense for me. Why was my wife trying to get me to get my nails done? Did she want me to have pretty pink nails? That’s never going to happen! I’m just not that type of guy!
But one day, she filled me in on the one key that changed my mind: with a manicure for men, you don’t need to get your nails painted.
That bears repeating. You don’t have to get your nails painted.
It was about a year before I realized this, and understood just what a manicure for men really entails, especially a spa manicure for men. In fact, there are all sorts of benefits for us to get a manicure for men.
It Feels Good
This one’s the obvious no-brainer. You get to soak your hands and feet and you get a nice massage. That feels nice. Then when you’re done, your hands and feet will feel cleaner and healthier. That’s nice too.
It Relieves Stress
Taking some time to relax and unwind is an important part of everyone’s health. A lot of us guys live high stress lives, and if you don’t take the time to release it, stress can cause some major health issues, from heart disease to diabetes to alzheimer’s, and more.
And getting a manicure and pedicure is a great way to just have a seat, relax, and get rid of that stress.
It Looks Nicer
If you work with your hands in a heavy capacity, like a construction worker or a carpenter, chances are your hands start to look like old leather after a while. And while that might make you look tougher, the ladies aren’t really fans of it.
But a manicure can help to reverse a lot of that damage. If you’re married, your wife will thank you for it. And if you’re single, you might have an easier time attracting girls when your hands look like hands, rather than a chunk of rotten ginger root.
It’s good for your health
A spa pedicure will clean your feet, removing dead skin cells and keeping things fresh. This can help you avoid nail diseases and will give you healthier skin. Many foot-related diseases can be avoided by properly taking care of your feet, and a pedicure every so often can is a big part of that.
In the end, your hands and feet will feel great, and they’ll be healthier. You’ll be able to de-stress, and the woman in your life will be thankful for it.
And of course, if you want, you can have your nails painted too. We won’t judge.
Yours in good health, this is Neetu Thakar for Jiva Spa Toronto!
