Botox treatments and fillers such as Juvederm are both used for the same essential purpose — reduction of wrinkles and rejuvenation of the skin.
At Jiva Spa Toronto, we perform both Botox and Juvederm treatments, depending on your individual needs.
But what are the differences between Botox vs Juvederm?
Keep reading to find out.
What Is Botox?
Botox — made of botulinum toxin — is a natural and purified protein.
It can be found in soil, lakes, and forests, as well as in mammalian intestinal tracts, shellfish organs, and fish gills.
Botox acts by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles which cause lines and wrinkles.
It also is used as a medical treatment for over 20 conditions including:
● Eye squints
● Leaky bladders
● Hyperhidrosis
● Chronic migraines
● Strabismus (crossed eyes)
● Post-stroke upper limb spasticity
Speak to your doctor or other qualified healthcare provider about the above treatments – we at Jiva Spa Toronto do not provide these treatments.
The active compound in Botox, botulinum toxin is actually one of the deadliest toxins known to humankind — just one gram could kill as many as one million people.
However it is safe when used in extremely small concentrations, where it works by paralyzing muscles by preventing signals sent by nerve cells.
Botox is the best known and most tested name brand of botulinum toxin, certified in both medical and cosmetic fields.
The duration of treatments varies by patient, but they range from 3 to 6 months.
What Is Juvederm?
Dermal fillers like Juvederm are used to lift and smooth targeted folds and wrinkles.
They work by injecting HA, or hyaluronic acid, a compound which is plentiful in our skin when we’re young but diminishes as we get older.
HA helps support our skin, so as we age and have less if it, wrinkles and lines develop.
HA can also be used as a lip filler.
Juvederm is a specific line of fillers, and it can be used to treat wrinkles varying from fine lines to deep skin depressions.
In 2016, over 2.4 million procedures using HA fillers such as Juvederm were performed.
Results from fillers are immediate, and effects last for up to 18 months.
The results from fillers should be subtle.
Which Option Is Right For You?
Botox is used on a wide range of patients.
It is often used as a treatment for moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, and for moderate to severe crow’s feet.
If you have nerve- or muscle-related medical conditions, such as damaged nerves, disclose them to your esthetician before beginning Botox treatments.
Facial fillers such as Juvederm are also used on a wide range of patients.
They are often used for overall skin rejuvenation and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.
In addition, Juvederm can be used to add structure and volume to the face, giving an appearance that is fresher and brighter.
If you are pregnant or nursing, it is not recommended to have either Botox or Juvederm treatments done.
