It happens to the best of us. Our bodies can take a lot and keep running, but as we age that piles up and we begin to show signs of aging.
And while most of us live very high-stress lives, there are still measures we can take to reverse the signs of aging after it’s begun and give our skin a more youthful, healthier glow. Here are some anti aging tips to help you do just that.
Anti Aging Tip #1: Keep your skin hydrated!
A good moisturizer is absolutely essential to keeping your skin looking its best. When your skin is dry it is much more prone to damage. It loses its elasticity, and can become brittle.
But if you keep your skin well moisturized, it will regain its flexibility and become much more resilient. Use a good moisturizer just after you wash your face, and you’ll have softer, healthier skin which looks great!
Anti Aging Tip #2: Take care of your eyes and eyelids!
One of the first places aging starts to show is in the eyes.
Your upper and lower lids may start to sag, and you may develop “crow’s feet”, those small lines which form on the outside of your eyes. Pigment may start to become uneven as well.
If you’re looking for a proactive approach, try avoiding sleeping on your side or stomach. Spending eight hours a day with your face smushed into the pillow will cause some problems. And speaking of sleep, make sure you’re getting enough!
Wear sunglasses while you’re out as well. That will prevent you from squinting, which is a surefire way to cause aging signs in your eyes.
Anti Aging Tip #3: Eat healthy food for healthy hair!
As we age, our hair ages with us. It can become brittle, dry, and take on the consistency of hay.
But if you want youthful, gorgeous hair which doesn’t look like dinner to a horse, it all comes down to diet.
Eating foods rich in biotin, like lentils, green peas, and walnuts will help your hair maintain its strength. These foods are also good for your skin, and research shows it may even help prevent hair loss in men.
Flavonoids are also important to your hair. They help keep it strong, and encourage healthy growth. Most fruits and vegetables have flavonoids, as does green tea.
If you’re feeling extra organic, you can use some essential oils in your hair as well. Mix a few drops of lavender oil with two tablespoons of a carrier oil, like almond, olive, or avocado oil. Let it sit for a few minutes, and wash it out. This will give your hair a softer, healthier feel and nourish it with the elements it needs.
Anti Aging Tip #4: Keep your mind healthy!
The body shows signs of aging sometimes more obviously than the mind, but both are equally as important!
As we age, our mind can sometimes start to lose its ability to function as well as it used to. But it doesn’t have to! If we take care of ourselves properly, we can maintain our mental abilities well into our old age!
One of the keys to proper brain function is the B vitamin group. You can get them through supplements, as well as from food like eggs, mushrooms, brown rice, and oats.
In fact, if you aren’t already taking a multi-vitamin supplement, it’s a good idea to start doing so. It’s difficult to get all the nutrients our bodies need to function properly through diet alone, and taking a multivitamin can make a big difference. It’s good for your skin as well!
