So you’re considering getting microneedling.
You’ve been searching online to find the best Toronto microneedling spa, and are close to making an appointment.
You have questions.
Is this the right decision? How should I prepare for my appointment? Does it hurt? How long will it take to heal?
Keep reading for the answers to these questions and more.
Step 1: Decide Whether Microneedling Is Right For You
Microneedling is an non-invasive procedure which is used to help the skin to rejuvenate and create collagen.
It’s a great option for busy people, because the procedure only takes a couple of hours from start-to-finish, and has virtually no downtime.
Generally it is used to target the skin on your face, including issues such as acne or chickenpox scars, sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and large pores.
It can also be used to even skin tone and improve skin’s elasticity.
Sometimes microneedling is used for stretch marks and scarring in other areas of the body, however it is most commonly used on the face.
The benefits of microneedling can also come from other medi spa treatments as well, however, including microdermabrasions and skin remodeling treatments. If you aren’t sure which option is best for your unique skincare needs, contact us here at Jiva Spa Toronto to book a consultation with one of our experienced skincare specialists.
Step 2: How To Prepare For Your Microneedling Spa Appointment
So you’ve decided to book a microneedling appointment.
Your technician will most likely provide instructions for you to follow leading up to your appointment.
This may include stopping certain medications, avoiding wearing makeup, and ensuring you are hydrated. You may need to consult with your medical doctor before starting.
For the best possible experience, be sure to follow any instructions you are given – remember, you are going to an expert and they know what they’re talking about.
Step 3: What To Expect During Your Appointment
Before you begin, a topical anesthetic will be used to reduce pain and discomfort during the procedure – this should be applied about an hour before the treatment, so you will need to be prepared for this time.
During your appointment the practitioner will make small pricks under the skin using a small needle.
These are so minusculeyou are unlikely to notice them after the procedure.
These pricks act as a tiny injury to the skin, which in-turn encourages it to produce more collagen-rich tissue.
This newly formed tissue is more even in tone and texture, and can also help improve skin’s firmness.
Once the procedure is completed, the practitioner will apply a serum to help the skin heal.
The microneedling process takes about a halfhour, however the total length of the appointment will generally be about two hours.
Step 4: Aftercare
Although microneedling is a non-invasive procedure, and recovery time is minimal, you can’t just go home afterwards and forget about it.
There is some aftercare which will be required to ensure your skin heals fully and properly.
In the days immediately following the procedure, you may experience redness and mild skin irritation.
This is a response to the small “injuries” or “pin pricks” made during the procedure. It’s okay to use makeup to hide this redness.
Also, following the procedure your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight, so sunscreen is especially important (although you should be wearing sunscreen daily, regardless of any procedures you have had done).
Finally, swimming, exercise, or other strenuous activity for 24 hours after your appointment is not a good idea.
Anything which could introduce sweat or bacteria to your skin should be avoided.
If you experience any severe side effects such as bleeding, bruising, infection, or peeling be sure to contact your esthetician right away for advice and instruction.
